Man fined for drugs offence

A Pembroke man was fined yesterday after being found with a small amount of cannabis near a West End hotel.Kyrawn Tucker, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing cannabis in an incident on February 8 near the Fairmont Southampton Princess.Prosecutors told the court that at 3.35pm that day, officers were on mobile patrol in Southampton when they saw Tucker standing on the side of the road near the hotel.The officers spoke to Tucker and in a subsequent search found a brown paper package and a clear plastic package in his pants pocket, both containing dried plantlike material.Tests later found the material to be 1.4g of cannabis.After pleading guilty, the court heard that Tucker was sorry for the offence, which was described as an error of judgement.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Tucker $500 for the offence.
