Driving ban, $1,000 fine for impaired motorcyclist who hid from police

A 24-year-old Sandys man who attempted to hide after police spotted him driving impaired has been banned from the roads.

Raymond Brangman was seen wearing no helmet as he drove a motorcycle out of Hamilton at 4.40am on April 27, Magistrates’ Court heard.

Police followed his bike onto Trimingham Road, at which Brangman turned onto Trimingham Hill and then Trimingham Drive.

Officers then found him “hiding in the trees”, Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess told the court.

Asked if he had been drinking, Brangman replied “Yes”.

Police noticed a strong scent of alcohol on his breath.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000, and disqualified Brangman from driving for one year.
