Man fined for cannabis

A 31-year-old found with cannabis during a police stop was yesterday fined.Magistrates’ Court heard that at around 1.45pm on March 1, officers pulled over a motorcycle on Frog Lane on an unrelated traffic matter.Once the vehicle stopped the pillion passenger, Heys Wolffe, stepped off the bike and began to walk away nervously. As he did so, the officers saw him reaching into his left back pocket. The officers stopped the Pembroke resident to be searched, at which time he whispered to the officer: “I’ve got a little something.”Police found a clear twist containing 0.58g of cannabis in his left back pocket. Wolffe was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station to be processed. While there, he allegedly told one officer: “You planted it on me. I’m going to tell them you planted it.”Appearing in court, Wolffe admitted the offence, and Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner subsequently fined him $800.
