Man fined for fight over debt

A Pembroke man who admitted beating another man, allegedly over an unpaid debt, has been fined $1,000 in Magistrates’ Court.John Simons, 31, unlawfully assaulted Darren Anglin at 8.15am on March 28 in the Hamilton bus terminal.After punching Mr Anglin in the face, Simons returned to punch and kick him. He was arrested on April 19 at the Salvation Army Shelter and admitted the offence.Simons told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he’d asked Mr Anglin to “run an errand — he never returned with my receipt”.Mr Warner gave him 30 days to pay the fine.
