Man admits depriving woman of her liberty

A Paget man accused of sexually assaulting a woman near Warwick Long Bay yesterday admitted depriving the victim of her liberty.The 34-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denied charges of serious sexual assault while carrying and threatening to use a knife, and assault causing actual bodily harm.All of the charges relate to a single incident on July 1 this year.Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons remanded the defendant into custody until the September arraignments session so that a trial date can be set.Also appearing in Supreme Court during yesterday’s arraignment session was Zikai Cann, who denied the premeditated murder of Gary (Fingaz) Cann.The 24-year-old Sandys man pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting Mr Cann on December 15, 2009, and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence on the same date.The defendant also denied possessing and discharging a firearm on an unknown date between November 11 and November 16, 2009.Gary Cann was fatally shot at the home of his girlfriend on Soundview Road in Somerset. He was 22 years old at the time of his death.Meanwhile, brothers Michael Talbot, 23, and Shauntonnai Talbot, 25, pleaded not guilty to several firearms offences.Michael Talbot, from Hamilton Parish denied carrying a .38 calibre handgun at Devonshire Recreational Club on March 24 of this year.He also denied possessing a .38 calibre handgun, a stun gun and numerous rounds of ammunition on March 27.Shauntonnai Talbot, from Devonshire, pleaded not guilty to a single count of handling a .38 handgun sometime between a date unknown and March 27.Mr Cann and Michael Talbot were remanded into custody, while Shauntonnai Talbot’s bail was extended.
