Man is jailed for heroin possession

A Smith’s man has been sentenced to 60 days in prison for heroin possession.Police followed 28-year-old Jahmiko Hayward in a car and arrested him on December 23, 2011 while he was within 100 metres of the Smith’s community field increased penalty zone.Magistrates’ Court heard Hayward tried to get rid of seven plastic bags of heroin before police confronted him.Police found $5,050 in cash in his pant pockets and after a search of his Broken Hill Lane home, found 0.27g of cannabis, 0.27g of heroin, and drug equipment.Hayward apologised for his actions and asked for leniency with his sentence.“It won’t happen again,” he said.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner sentenced Hayward to 60 days in prison and gave him the choice to pay an $800 fine or 30 days imprisonment for possession of cannabis, as well as a $500 fine or 30 days in prison for possession of drug equipment.
