Drunk driver found in ditch
A Southampton delivery driver who fell by the roadside after driving while impaired has lost his licence for one year.
Magistrates' Court heard that David Center, 32, was spotted by police on September 28 at about 10.50pm, heading east on Front Street without a helmet on.
Officers lost sight of him after trying to follow Center's motorcycle — but shortly thereafter were approached by a member of the public at the junction of St Paul's Lane and South Road, Paget.
A man was reported to be lying in a nearby ditch, and police recognised him and his vehicle. Center was arrested after telling police he's been drinking.
Appearing before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner, Center apologised and said he'd enrolled in counselling for alcohol.
Mr Warner fined him $1,500, also disqualifying him from driving for 12 months.
