Shoplifter’s sentence lengthened
A Warwick man imprisoned for five years had 30 days added to his sentence for stealing $10 worth of “water enhancers”.
Ramon Blanchette, 44, pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of Mio liquid water enhancer from Heron Bay MarketPlace in an incident on July 18.
The court heard yesterday that he was confronted by store staff at around 3.05pm that day after they saw him place the bottles in his pocket and exit the store without paying.
He told the court he forgot he had the bottles in his pocket, but that he wanted to plead guilty to the theft charge to get the matter “over and done with”.
The court heard that following the incident, he was sentenced to five years in prison for similar offences.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo sentenced Blanchette to 30 days in prison for the offence, ordering that the sentence be served consecutive to that already being served.
