A 25-year-old Devonshire man allegedly caught on camera attempting to smuggle cannabis and heroin into Westgate prison appeared today in Magistrates’ Court.Jovon Virgil denied the January 21 offences before Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo.Crown counsel Nicole Smith said Mr Virgil was spotted on CCTV at the jail perimeter, smuggling in cannabis, cannabis resin, heroin, liquor, tobacco and sweets. He was further accused of carrying a knife, and trespassing on Westgate property.Ms Smith told the court Mr Virgil was picked up by police at 2am at a nearby bus stop.Mr Tokunbo set a November 20 trial date and jailed him until then.
