A man has been charged with having sex with a schoolgirl and molesting her.

The 33-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning on four counts of unlawful carnal knowledge, and three counts of sexually touching a child.

He was not required to enter a plea because the charges are indictable, and must be heard in the Supreme Court.

The three counts of being a person in a position of trust and allegedly molesting the girl, who was 11 at the time, are said to have taken place in December last year, and January and July this year.

Four counts of alleged unlawful carnal knowledge relate to dates between December last year and this February, and last month.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded the accused into custody.

The case was adjourned until September 5 for mention.
