Energy drink thief granted bail

Magistrates' Court (File photo)

A woman has admitted taking energy drinks from Hamilton Pharmacy.

Frederica Durrant, 52, from St George’s, appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to three counts of stealing.

The charges relate to three separate incidents. Each time, the only item stolen was a $2.60 can of Monster energy drink.

The court heard that Durrant was stopped by pharmacy staff on April 23 after a worker at Buzz, which operates inside the pharmacy, saw her take the drink from the fridge, place it in a bag and leave without paying for it.

After being stopped, she told staff she was going to her office to get money and intended to return to pay.

The employee said she had seen Durrant do the same thing on two previous occasions, ordering a cup of ice from Buzz before placing it and the can in a bag and leaving.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and released Durrant on bail until sentencing in July.
