Drink-driver wreaks havoc in Lindos car park

A drink-driver who wreaked havoc in the Devonshire Lindos car park crashing into four parked vehicles has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Antonio Da Ponte Medeiros was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit when he drove into the car park on September 4, this year.

He crashed into at least four cars causing thousands of dollars in damage as he attempted to initially reverse his car into a parking space and later leave the car park.

Bystanders took Medeiros’s keys off him before calling the police. Officers later detained the 62-year-old at the scene and arrested him on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit.

At Magistrates’ Court today Medeiros of Hamilton Parish pleaded guilty to the charge and was banned from the roads for 18 months. He was also fined $1,500.

Asked if he had anything to say Medeiros replied: “sorry”.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said: “You have a lot of sorries to say. You did a lot of damage and probably bankrupted the insurance company.”
