Illegal dogs result in fine

A Southampton man who kept two illegal dogs has been fined $800.

Quan-Marley Lowe, 28, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to keeping a male and a female white and tan pitbull-type dog without a licence in Southampton between a date unknown and March 5.

The court heard that animal wardens executed a search warrant at Lowe’s residence and seized the two dogs after they failed to find microchips.

It was later determined that no dogs fitting that description were licensed to Lowe’s address.

Lowe told the court that he had one of the dogs for six years and described it as a “family dog” that did not bite people.

However, magistrate Archibald Warner said that a dog has to be licensed whether it is a good dog or a bad dog and handed Lowe two $400 fines.
