Woman gets conditional discharge for theft

A Devonshire woman who admitted stealing from the Hamilton Dollar Depot has been given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Monique Shannon was sentenced in Magistrates’ Court this morning for stealing $15 worth of items on September 9.

At a previous appearance, the court heard that the 38-year-old was seen placing hair products, cholesterol treatment, thermals and a sandwich container in her bag.

CCTV then showed her leaving the store without paying. She was approached by staff, escorted back inside and the police were called.

Magistrate Archibald Warner today handed her a 12-month conditional discharge on the condition that she agree to any programmes or treatment deemed necessary.
