Woman admits stealing from sister

A Devonshire woman admitted stealing money from her sister and fighting her after being confronted about the theft.

Katrina Every, 23, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to stealing $120 from Stephanie Every and assaulting her on August 14. Prosecutor Nicole Smith told the court that at around 1.30pm, the complainant was at home on North Shore Road in Devonshire when she heard the defendant asking their mother for money. When she went to check her own wallet, she discovered that $120 had been removed.

She confronted Every, but the defendant shouted that she didn’t take anything and started to run away. The complainant found Every at the Devonshire Dock and asked for her money back. When the defendant refused, the compainant called the police. A fight erupted between the sisters, with the defendant allegedly pushing and choking the complainant before biting her leg. Katrina Every was arrested, at which point she told officers: “I already told my sister I would pay her back this week and next week.”

Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered that a social inquiry report be carried out on Every, releasing her on $2,000 bail. She is expected to return to court in December for sentencing.
