Canadians charged with importing fentanyl

Fentanyl citrate

A pair of Canadian nationals have been charged with smuggling the controlled drug fentanyl to the island.

Jacqueline Robinson, 25, from Courtice, Ontario, and Craig Lawrence, 35, from Markham, Ontario, were both charged with conspiring to import the synthetic opioid sometime between an unknown date and December 15.

Mr Lawrence was further charged with possessing the drug on December 20 with intent to supply.

Neither defendant was given the opportunity to plea as the matter will appear before the Supreme Court. Both remained silent throughout proceedings.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo remanded both defendants into custody until February 1, when the matter is expected to appear before the Supreme Court.
