Court reports have been ordered on a Pembroke man who gave police multiple false names after being stopped for traffic offences.

Gary Dillas, 64, pleaded guilty to a range of offences, including driving while disqualified, driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit, making false statements and using fraudulent documents.

The court heard that on May 8, officers stopped Dillas on North Shore Road in Pembroke on an unrelated matter.

During the stop, police noticed that the licence sticker on his motorcycle appeared to have been tampered with, with two stickers being put together to make the licence appear to be up to date.

Officers also noticed Dillas’s breath smelled of alcohol, and took him to Hamilton Police Station to provide a breath sample, which revealed a lower reading of 158mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood — almost double the legal limit of 80mg.

When first stopped, Dillas initially told officers his first name was “Spence” and provided a false birth date, explaining that the reason they did not have a record of him was that he did not have a valid drivers licence.

However he later told officers his last name was “Dias”, then spelled it out as “Dillass” and claimed his first name was “Mark” before relenting and providing police with his real name.

It was then discovered that he had been disqualified from driving until 2018.

Noting that Dillas was convicted of driving with impaired less than two years before the incident before the court, magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a drug assessment and Social Inquiry Report on the defendant, sending him to view Drug Treatment Court.

Also appearing before the court was 62-year-old Paulina Brooks, who pleaded guilty to a single count of driving while over the legal limit on the evening of April 27.

The court heard that at around 9.45pm that day, officers received a report of a collision that had taken place on North Shore Road.

When the officers arrived in the area of Shaw Wood Crescent, they were approached by the complainants who said they were driving along North Shore Road when another car, driven by Brooks, swerved into their lane and struck the mirror.

When the other car continued to drive away, the complainants said they followed her, honking their horn and flashing their lights in an attempt to stop her.

However they said Brooks continued to Shaw Wood Crescent, repeatedly crossing the middle line in the process.

Brooks admitted being the driver of the car and, after the officers noted that her eyes were glazed, she admitted having two glasses of wine earlier in the evening.

A breath test later revealed a lower reading of 93mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.

Mr Tokunbo fined Brooks $1,200, banning her from driving all vehicles for a period of 18 months.
