Drink driver banned

A 23-year-old Devonshire driver was today fined and banned from the roads for drink driving.

Lequan Outerbridge pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the offence that happened in Pembroke yesterday.

The court heard that Outerbridge crashed his car into a wall and knocked down a pole on Court Street, near its junction with Ewing Street around 9pm.

Outerbridge fled the scene but officers later went to his home and noticed that he appeared to be intoxicated.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

A breathalyser test showed he had 142 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80mg.

Outerbridge told the court: “I am sorry. That's all I can say.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo banned Outerbridge from the roads for 18 months and fined him $1,200.
