Woman admits to cashing bogus cheques

A 56-year-old woman admitted yesterday to cashing stolen cheques to gain $8,100.

Magistrates’ Court heard Donna Saltus passed the cheques between October 13, 2009 and January 5, 2010 at the Butterfield Bank.

Marc Daniels, lawyer for Saltus, said his client was “desperate for the cash and, from the onset, she has accepted culpability”.

Saltus pleaded guilty to 18 counts of obtaining property by deception.

The court heard she had previous convictions for cheque fraud and dishonesty.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said: “I would be interested in having a social inquiry report.”

Mr Tokunbo bailed Saltus so that she could attend a medical appointment.

She will be sentenced on April 26.
