Pembroke man charged with child sex offences

A 53-year-old man appeared in court charged with sex offences against a minor two decades ago.

The Pembroke man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of unlawful carnal knowledge of an under-age girl.

On Thursday, Magistrates’ Court heard that the alleged offences occurred between June 15, 1997 and September 15, 1998.

The defendant was not required to enter a plea because the case must be heard in Supreme Court.

The man was released on bail of $10,000 for a further appearance on May 1.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo also ordered the man to have no contact with the alleged victim and to report to Hamilton police station every week.
