Motorcyclist racked up $7,000 in fines
A man was banned from the roads for 18 months and ordered to pay almost $7,000 in fines for a string of traffic offences that included riding a motorbike while more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
Dudley Walker, 23, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court on Friday to drink driving, failure to stop for police, riding without a licence and riding an uninsured and unlicensed motorcycle.
The court heard that a police patrol saw Walker swerve as he rode along Crow Lane, near Hamilton, on May 30.
The officer turned on his emergency lights and tried to get Walker to pull but he refused to stop.
Walker eventually stopped his motorcycle, but attempted to make a U-turn.
He was blocked by another officer’s car.
He admitted he had been drinking and was taken to Hamilton Police Station for a breath test.
The test showed that Walker, of Pembroke, had 181 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.
Walker also admitted being in care and control of a vehicle while impaired.
The incident happened in Devonshire on April 6.
Walker in addition pleaded guilty to three counts of riding without a licence and two counts of speeding between February and April of last year.
Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Walker a total of $6,940 and ordered that they be paid by September 30.
He also banned Walker from the roads for a total of 18 months for the alcohol-related offences.
The court heard that Walker had $600 in overdue fines and he was ordered to pay by the end of the day.
