Impaired driver put off the road

A Pembroke man was yesterday banned from driving for 18 months for riding a motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol.

Benjamin Rockliffe, 29, was also fined $1,000 after admitting the offence in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that police noticed Rockliffe speeding up and slowing down, and crossing the centre line while riding on North Shore Road, Devonshire on May 17 at 10pm.

When police pulled him over, he was asked to put his bike on its stand and he almost dropped the bike.

Police noticed he smelled of alcohol, he was unsteady on his feet and his eyes were glazed.

A breathalyser test showed a reading of 164mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – more than twice the legal limit.

Rockliffe apologised for his behaviour.
