Motorcyclist banned and fined for drink driving

A man was almost three times the legal alcohol limit when he crashed his motorcycle, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

Saravanan Thangaiyan, 30, was fined and banned from the roads for 18 months for drink driving.

The court heard that police went to the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Collector’s Hill in Smiths.

Officers found Thangaiyan, from Pembroke, who admitted that he had been drinking.

Thangaiyan was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station for a breath test.

The result showed that he had 231.5 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

The incident happened on November 13 last year.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo also fined Thangaiyan $1,000.
