Roads ban and fine for car driver who hit bike rider

A Sandys woman was taken off the roads for nine months after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention on New Year’s Eve last year.

Glenda Reid, 64, admitted the offence when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Shaunte Simons-Fox, for the Crown, told the court that at about 1am, Reid was driving north on Tee Street in Devonshire in her car, heading towards Middle Road.

She did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign and collided with a bike.

The bike rider sustained multiple injuries from the accident, including a facial contusion and tenderness of her ribs and part of her spine.

Reid apologised to the court and the victim. In addition to banning Reid from the roads, senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that she pay a $1,000 fine.
