Drink driver banned from roads for 18 months and fined

Magistrates' Court

A woman who hit a utility pole with her car and fell asleep at the wheel has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Mia Franklin, 45, from Warwick, admitted driving while under the influence of alcohol when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police attended a single-vehicle accident in Hamilton Parish and saw Franklin asleep in the driver’s seat on June 25 last year.

Officers smelt alcohol on Franklin’s breath after they woke her and also noticed that she was unsteady on her feet when she stepped out of the car.

In addition to the ban, Franklin was fined $1,200 and was given until the end of March to pay.
