Fine and roads ban for man found drinking and driving

Magistrates' Court

A man who was stopped by police last New Year’s Eve has been banned from driving for 18 months.

Federico Lombardi, 43, from Paget, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that officers stopped Lombardi, who was riding his bike on Montpelier Road in front of them, because his registration had expired.

As they approached him, police smelt an “overwhelming” scent of alcohol on Lombardi’s breath.

He admitted to drinking alcohol before riding his bike and took a breath test at the scene, which revealed 112 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

In addition to being banned, Lombardi was fined $1,200 and given until February 17 to pay.
