Man charged with causing death of 26-year-old in collision

A Pembroke man appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged in connection with a collision in which a 26-year-old man died.

Treadwell Smith, 36, is charged with causing the death of Dennis Saunders by driving his car on Palmetto Road without due care and attention on Christmas Day 2021.

He is also charged with driving while having a dangerous drug in his system, driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol and driving without proper insurance.

As the case must be heard in the Supreme Court, Mr Smith was not required to enter a plea during this morning’s appearance.

Magistrate Craig Attridge adjourned the case until May 1 and released Mr Smith on $10,000 bail until that time.

Mr Smith was also ordered to surrender all travel documents and attend Hamilton Police Station three times a week.
