Man pleads guilty to stealing kitchen knives

Magistrates' Court

A man who stole kitchen knives from The MarketPlace is due to be sentenced in court today.

Charles Ebbin, 64, from Hamilton Parish, admitted to taking the merchandise, valued at almost $75, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that last August, a manager at the Shelly Bay MarketPlace saw Ebbin take three knives from a shelf, place them in his right pocket and leave the store without paying.

The manager followed Ebbin outside and ordered him to return the items, which he did.

Ebbin was sentenced to two years’ probation in October 2022, in connection with another matter.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin adjourned the case until the first sitting of Probation Review Court today and released Ebbin on $500 bail.

Probation Review Court is a new monthly court session which will look at people’s probation orders and help them get back on track and gain housing and employment.
