Conditional discharge for man who assaulted police officers

A man who injured two police officers while being arrested was given a conditional discharge in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Tyler Dill, 24, from St George’s, admitted assaulting both officers when he appeared in court last month.

Dill injured an officer’s hand in July 2021, causing it to swell, the court heard. In another incident, he punched a policeman while being arrested near Ice Queen restaurant last October.

The second officer attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a result of the assault.

Prosecutor Taneka King requested that Dill be sentenced to 18 months probation for the offences.

Vaughan Caines, Dill’s lawyer, suggested that, given his client’s young age and previous good character, a conditional discharge would be more appropriate.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo sentenced Dill to a six-month conditional discharge, but warned him to stay out of trouble during that time or have his sentenced changed to a harsher one.
