Road ban for man who admitted drink-driving

Magistrates' Court

A man who was stopped by police after being seen driving his bike erratically was ordered to attend a drink-driver’s treatment programme.

Dion Smith, 38, from Southampton, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that officers were told about Smith’s manner of driving and stopped him on Middle Road.

When talking to Smith, they saw that his eyes were red and smelt alcohol on his breath.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that Smith participate in DUI Court, a drink-driver’s treatment programme, beginning on May 9 and released him on $2,500 bail.

She also disqualified him from driving all vehicles until further notice.
