Road ban for man who pleaded guilty to drink-driving

A man who rode away from police after they spotted him driving erratically in Hamilton has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Delgardo Pinto, 34, from Warwick, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that police saw Pinto riding his bike erratically and almost hitting a parked vehicle on Front Street.

Officers followed him out of the city and stopped him on South Road.

While speaking to Pinto, they noticed his eyes were red and his speech was slurred and took him to the Hamilton Police Station.

In addition to being banned, Pinto was fined $1,500.
