Man banned from roads, fined $1,500 for drink-driving

A man who crashed his motorbike on Harbour Road has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Andre Jackson, 40, admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that last July, Jackson was driving towards Hamilton when he lost control on his bike and hit a wall.

When they attended the scene a short time later, police and medical personnel saw Jackson and his bike laying in the middle of the road.

While talking to him, officers noticed that his eyes were red and his speech was slurred.

Jackson was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

In addition to the ban, Jackson was fined $1,500.
