Senior fined $1,000 for driving without due care

A motorist who struck a car in Southampton has been disqualified from driving for six months.

Joseph Smith, 75, from Sandys, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that Smith collided with the car while exiting Industrial Park Road on March 28.

The complainant attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, and Smith had chest pains after the collision.

Smith apologised for his actions and told the court that he had pulled out of the road without problems for 40 years.

In addition to being banned from the roads, Smith was fined $1,000.
