Man sent to drug treatment court for break-ins, burglaries

A man who stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from three businesses has been ordered to participate in drug treatment court.

Antonio Thompson, 46, admitted breaking into and stealing from two petrol stations in Warwick and a liquor store in Smith’s, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in June.

The court heard that Thompson, from Hamilton parish, broke into one petrol station on April 27, the other on May 17 and the liquor store on May 29, stealing almost $8,000 worth of tobacco products.

Thompson also pleaded guilty to stealing a Yamaha motorbike and licence plate, which were later found near his Cottage Hill Road residence.

Taking social inquiry, mental health and drug-use reports into account, senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered Thompson to observe drug treatment court, beginning on August 29, and remanded him to custody until that time.
