Motorcyclist gets roads ban and fine for drink-driving

A man who crashed his bike in St George’s has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Thomas Mahoney, 29, from Paget, admitted drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

The court heard that on July 2, police attended the scene of the crash, on Mullet Bay Road, and found the cycle laying in the middle of the road.

When talking to Mahoney, who was sitting on a nearby railing, officers smelt alcohol on his breath and heard that his speech was slurred.

Mahoney was taken to the Hamilton Police Station, where he failed a breathalyser test.

In addition to being banned, Mahoney was fined $1,500.
