Man found with knife in Dockyard

A man found with a knife in his pocket will be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court next month.

Stefan Martin, 27, admitted having the weapon, which had a four-inch blade, in a public place when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that police responding to an altercation at Snorkel Park in Dockyard on August 8 asked Martin to leave the area.

Martin, from Pembroke, then threatened to injure officers.

Police saw the weapon in Martin’s right pocket while arresting him but he threw it in the bushes before they could grab it.

Officers retrieved the knife and asked Martin why he had it. Martin said he “felt he needed it”.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered social inquiry and mental health reports be written for Martin, adjourned the case to February 23 for sentencing and extended his bail until that time.
