Man banned from roads for 18 months

A motorist who led police on a chase through Pembroke has been banned from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Kelly Keter admitted to not stopping for officers, as well as riding his bike dangerously and while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police followed the 35-year-old, from Warwick, after he overtook them along Palmetto Road on November 12.

Keter sped away from officers and ignored stop lights and signs on Cedar Avenue, Dundonald Street and Victoria Street before parking near City Hall car park.

When talking to Keter, officers smelt alcohol on his breath and took him to Hamilton Police Station.

Keter apologised for his actions and told the court he “was more scared than anything” during the incident.

In addition to being banned, he was fined $250 for not stopping for police, $1,000 for dangerous driving and $1,500 for riding while impaired.
