Woman banned from roads for impaired driving

A woman who crashed her car in Devonshire has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Sophia Spence, 46, admitted driving while impaired by alcohol when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that Spence told police at the scene of the crash on Roberts Avenue on December 20 that she was involved in a hit-and-run collision.

However, Spence, from Devonshire, was unable to provide any details of the vehicle she said hit her, and admitted “taking a few shots” before driving. She was then taken to Hamilton Police Station.

In addition to being banned, Spence was fined $1,500.
