A teacher at one of the island’s schools is in custody after being charged with sexual offences against a 14-year-old.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, did not enter a plea last Friday at Magistrates’ Court as the charges are indictable.

He was accused of being in a position of trust or authority towards a young person between February 1 and March 6 and attempted unlawful carnal knowledge, as well as touching for a sexual purpose.

The man is further accused, during the same timespan, of kissing the young person and procuring her to make child pornography — and of accessing child pornography.

He was remanded in Westgate prison and is next due in court at the April arraignments session.
