A man who stole from two Hamilton businesses this week was ordered to participate in a drug treatment court programme.

Andre James, 41, admitted stealing a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses from Bermuda Optical Company on Church Street and a speaker from P-Tech on Reid Street when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

James, of no fixed abode, stole the sunglasses, valued at $479, on April 1 and took the speaker, valued at $399, from one of P-Tech’s display windows two days later.

The court heard that he cut his finger after shattering the window, leaving drops of blood behind.

Police followed the blood and found James on Front Street after the incident.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin ordered social inquiry and drug use reports to be written for James and ordered he observe Drug Treatment Court beginning on Tuesday.

James was remanded into custody until that time.
