A man who took part in a fight at Southampton Rangers Sports Club has been sentenced to one year of probation.

Adrinho Smith, 20, admitted the offence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in February and was sentenced in April.

The fight resulted in a Premier Division football match between Paget Lions and Devonshire Colts at Southampton Oval on November 23 last year being postponed.

The Royal Gazette earlier reported that police were called to the venue just before 3pm that day after a group of about five men tried to assault a player on the Paget squad during the warm-up.

Smith, from Warwick, had conditions attached to his probation and was ordered to attend court on October 28 for a review.
