A man found with a knife in public was sentenced to 18 months’ probation.

Kenyade McQueen, 24, admitted having the weapon, which had a blade longer than three inches, as well as refusing a breath test, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The Pembroke resident committed the offences, which he initially denied, on January 5 and was remanded in custody for 50 days until he changed the pleas.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy, who sentenced McQueen yesterday, ordered that his time behind bars stand as substitute for the standard $1,500 fine for refusing a breath test. She also disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Conditions of McQueen’s probation include not committing another offence within 18 months, participating in any programmes recommended by court staff and returning for a review on September 23.
