Man charged with causing death by driving under the influence

A Hamilton Parish man has been charged with causing a motorist’s death by driving while impaired by alcohol.

Dante Wellman, 31, was also accused of causing the death of the same man, Stuart Albouy, by driving a car with a volume of blood-alcohol more than the legal limit was in his system.

He was formally charged in Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was not required to enter pleas to the offences, which were allegedly committed on Middle Road, Paget, on October 21 last year, as the matter must be heard in Supreme Court.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson sent the case to the September Arraignments session and released Mr Wellman on $25,000 bail with a surety until that time.
