A serial sex offender who intruded on a woman’s a privacy has been sentenced to three years behind bars.

Devaun Cox, 41, was convicted of the offence in June after a trial and was sentenced in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Cox, a registered sex offender said to have mental health challenges, committed the intrusion on August 20, 2025, months after he was jailed for acting indecently outside City Hall.

Prosecutor Kael London said yesterday that Cox has previous similar convictions that dated back to 2012 and had refused supervision outside prison.

He suggested that Cox spend between 18 and 24 months behind bars for the intrusion offence.

Vaughan Caines, Cox’s lawyer, said his client did not use physical violence when committing the offence and left the area when the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, asked him to.

Cox has received assistance at the Westgate Correctional Facility since being remanded last August.

He was first sentenced to six months behind bars in 2012 for intruding on a girl’s privacy, followed by three years in jail for a similar offence in 2013.

He was convicted of intruding on a girl’s privacy for a third time in 2017, which was upheld on appeal the following year.

Cox was jailed for another six months in 2022 after sexually assaulting a patient at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, and sentenced to an additional year behind bars for committing another sexual assault days after being released from Westgate in 2023.

The sentencing for the latter sexual assault was changed to 21 months behind bars after Cox violated his probation.

He was then sentenced to six months in jail for acting indecently outside City Hall last year and convicted of the latest intrusion offence in June.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy ordered that time spent in custody be considered during Cox’s three-year sentence.
