A Hamilton Parish man was banned from the road for three years after he admitted drinking and driving in two separate incidents.

Alejandro Solis, 26, pleaded guilty to driving in the City of Hamilton while impaired on November 5, 2025 and again on August 19 this year.

The court heard that at about 2.20am on November 5 last year, police on mobile patrol noticed Solis outside the Front Yard on Front Street and signalled for him to stop but he rode away on a motorcycle.

Officers later spotted him at Chance Variety on Dundonald Street and when they spoke to him, they noticed that he smelled of alcohol.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and later failed a blood-alcohol test.

At about 1.45am on August 19, police on mobile patrol noticed Solis fail to stop at a traffic light at the junction of Parliament Street and Dundonald Street.

The officers stopped Solis and noticed that his eyes were glazed, his voice was slurred and he smelt of alcohol. Asked if he had been drinking, Solis said he had two drinks at Front Yard.

After pleading guilty, Solis apologised for his actions and said that he understood the severity of the situation. He asked if he could be given a week before being disqualified to sort out his affairs.

Magistrate Craig Attridge denied the request and banned him from the road for three years, fining him $3,500 for the offences.

Solis was one of four people who pleaded guilty to drink-driving related offences in Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.

Freeman Lema, 29, from Devonshire, pleaded guilty to driving on Front Street while impaired in an incident in the early morning of July 26.

The court heard that officers on mobile patrol noticed Lema driving a car closely behind a marked police car at 2.40am and honking at the police officers.

Lema was pulled over and repeatedly told officers that he had not been speeding, despite the officers explaining that they stopped him for driving too closely behind another vehicle and using the horn inappropriately.

Asked if he had been drinking, Lema reportedly stopped his car and attempted to walk away from the officers.

Lema was fined $1,500 for the offence and banned from the road for 18 months.

Bray Saltus, 63, from Warwick, pleaded guilty to driving on Palmetto Road while impaired in an incident on July 25.

The court heard that police were conducting stops on the road at 10.21pm when an officer signalled with a flashlight for Saltus to stop.

Saltus allegedly slowed down but then accelerated in the direction of the officer, causing him to take evasive action. Saltus then stopped a short distance down the road and when officers shouted at him to drive back, he drove away from the area.

He was later stopped by other officers near Parsons Lane, where police noticed that his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.

Saltus was fined $1,500 and disqualified from driving for 18 months.

Rodrigo Medeiros-Carvalho, 28, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty to driving on Pitts Bay Road while over the legal blood-alcohol limit in an incident on July 19.

The court heard that at about 1.50am that day, Medeiros-Carvalho was riding a motorcycle down Pitts Bay Road when he was involved in a collision with a pedestrian near the junction with Serpentine Road.

Both he and the pedestrian reportedly suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Police and EMTs attended the scene and noticed that Medeiros-Carvalho was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were glazed and he smelt of alcohol.

Asked if he had been drinking, he told the officers that he had a mixed drink and a shot.

Medeiros-Carvalho later agreed to provide police with a breath sample, which showed he was over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

He was fined $1,500 and banned from driving for 18 months.
