A Smith’s man has been warned by the senior magistrate that he could face a jail term if he returns to court over further traffic offences.

Ernest J. Smith took his demerit points total up to 31 after admitting to driving an unlicensed car and not having third-party insurance on June 16.

The 63-year-old was hit in the pocket with $4,000 in fines, while he was also banned from the road for 15 months.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson said: “I see you have many, many, many tickets, sir. Of course, that has not stopped you from getting behind the wheel of a car with no licence or third-party insurance. That’s very, very dangerous.”

She added: “You are not allowed to drive any vehicles — you are not allowed to drive. You are playing a dangerous game.

“May I also say, you risk being incarcerated if you come back before us with any further tickets.”
