A jet-ski rider was fined $500 for speeding on his machine.

Tajl Maxwell, 24, from Warwick, appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to the offence of going too fast in the water and causing a wake.

The incident took place at Ferry Reach, St George’s, on July 31 and he was charged with creating a wake at that location.

Maxwell, who wore a grey T-shirt with an anchor emblem on it, told the court: “It was a five-knot zone and I was on a jet ski doing 20 knots.”

Magistrate Maria Sofianos imposed a $500 penalty.
