Banned biker incurs wrath of judge for still riding

Defying a court-ordered ban from the road cost a Devonshire man more than $1,000 in fines.

Ilijah Steede, 68, pleaded guilty to three offences and was heavily criticised by senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson for “blatantly disregarding” the law.

In Magistrates’ Court, he admitted parking his motorbike outside a cycle bay on April 10 and was fined $75.

Steede also admitted disobeying a traffic sign on August 6 while riding a motorbike on Middle Road and Garthowan Road.

He was fined $200 and had four points imposed on his licence.

Steede also confessed to driving the bike while disqualified on the same day and in the same location.

Ms Anderson fined him $1,000 for driving under a ban.

Prosecutor Karim Nelson told the court that Steede had been disqualified until April 10, 2028, and Ms Anderson then imposed a further six-month ban from the road for all vehicles, which will start from the day his original suspension ends.

She said: “Due to your blatant disregard for court orders, by continuing to drive when you should not be driving, it should be six months’ imprisonment, which will be suspended for two years.”
