Man fined after leading police on chase

A motorist who led police officers throughout Hamilton was fined $100 in Magistrates’ Court.

Tyrus Francis, 22, admitted not stopping for officers when he appeared in court yesterday, after initially denying the offence.

The court heard that police followed Francis, from Pembroke, after he rode past them on Front Street on July 8, 2024, despite being signalled several times to stop.

Officers eventually caught up with Francis outside the city, on Cox’s Hill Road, and arrested him for failing to stop along with unrelated warrants.

In addition to the fine, Francis, who was remanded in custody after breaching his bail this month, had five points added to his licence.
