Cuts leapfrog St. George’s
Willow Cuts, 224 for eight, beat St George’s, 222 all out, by two wickets
Willow Cuts made the long trek to the other side of the Island yesterday and returned home with a hard-fought two wicket win over St George’s at Wellington Oval to leapfrog their hosts into third place in the standings.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts were led by Christian Burgess (37) and captain Oronde Bascome (37), while Troy Hall chipped in with a useful 34.
Cuts’ top bowler was led by George O’Brien jr who grabbed three wickets for 30 runs, and was ably supported by Kevon Fubler who also took three wickets for 53 runs to restrict St George’s.
In reply, Chris Douglas stroked his way to 45 as Willow Cuts reached their target with two wickets in hand.
Malachi Jones (39) and Deunte Darrell (31) both helped themselves to runs in chasing down the required target.
Detroy Smith was the chief threat to the Cuts quest for victory as he claimed five scalps for 56 runs.
